Pleasures x Nine Inch Nails
OBJECTIVE
I've been a huge fan of both Pleasures and Nine Inch Nails for years. When I saw the recent Pleasures collection, something about the graphics immediately reminded me of the visual language of NIN's music. So I thought to myself, why hasn’t Pleasures done a collab with NIN? And why haven’t I thought of this a long time ago? Whatever the reason may be, I was inspired and took matters into my own hands.

KEY DELIVERABLES
- Cool merch ideas, with each concept inspired by a NIN song.
① Disclipine
"I need my role in this, very clearly defined."Hey, if you are an employer and seeing this, please have an open mind. So, I saw the favicon on Pleasures' site, and my mind immediately went to the NIN Pinion video. Sorry...
And thinking about that imagery alongside the lyrics of "Discipline," I wanted to make some graphics + merch around contracts, paperwork, secretary-type stuff, signing your name away, all of that.
② Meet Your Master / Closer
"Bow down in position, before the polished steel."Ah, the textures of industrial metal and the Nail in NIN. Following the signature inverted “N” in NIN, I applied the same treatment to the Pleasures logo to echo that visual language.
I’m personally pretty proud of this tailgating joke on the license plate cover design. If someone reads “You Get Me Closer to God,” they’re probably too close.
③ Copy of A
"I am just a copy of a copy of a copy."Inspired by the colors of Nine Inch Nails' Hesitation Marks and TRON: Ares. The "copy of a copy of a copy" graphic is built from repeated PLEASURES wordmarks with the NIN logo emerging through blakced out letters.
I was interested in the idea that pleasure itself is inherently repetitive. It's something we continuously seek out, recreate, and return to, it’s something we obsess over and lose ourselves in.
④ Mr. Self Destruct / The Downward Spiral
"I drag you down, I use you up. Mr. Destruct."Using the iconic spiral motif from NIN’s The Downward Spiral, my eyes told me that the shell pattern is a perfect plac to let the Pleasures logo naturally appear. The design is symbolic of how “pleasures” itself can be a downward spiral. And what better objects to represent that than a lighter, an ashtray, and a beer koozie.
⑤ The Line Begins to Blur
"The more I stay in here, the more it's not so clear. The more I stay in here, the more I disappear."
Inspired by “The Line Begins to Blur” from With Teeth and its colors, this collection uses leather as a symbolic representation of identity, because it acts as a second skin that conceals identity, but through wear and patina, reveals a different side of it.
