Words Are Free. So Are Roses.
After all, words are just words. Anyone can say anything they want, to anyone they want, to make them feel good, to make them happy, to get what they want. At no cost at all. So what if words cost something, and you really had to mean it? Then they would be much more scarce, much more authentic. What if words are all we have?
I thought of the quote, from Vicky Cristina Barcelona: “Only unfulfilled love can be romantic”. I couldn’t agree more. That is precisely the reason why everything that’s not fulfilled is the most beautiful.
Just like we are so moved by words because words are not fulfilled, and they hold so much possibility. I love you is filled with endless imaginations and scenarios and futures, things that could happen. That’s why we write letters, poetry, lyrics, because those things haven’t actualized yet. They haven’t turned into action. Even offering empty words to someone can turn a blank canvas into a beautiful painting, because they have already made the imagery bloom.
Words are free. So are roses. Both grow everywhere, neither are scarce. Roses look beautiful in the wild, and even in the supermarket, because of what they symbolize, because of what they can mean, just like words. And once the rose is handed to you, what do you do? You place it in a vase, you let it sit there, and eventually it withers. That is the trick of words too: beautiful but ultimately hollow, until action gives them life, or until time robs them of it.
Who am I kidding…Writing this is no use, I will continue to be bought with words and roses.
